Last week I went on work experience with Urban Spark.
It was a great experience for me to learn how the process of a company works, especially one that is starting from scratch and is working its way up.
I’m a design student studying Product Design at the University of Huddersfield, so it was an opportunity for me to understand the process and to learn what the work environment would be like within a design company.
Urban Spark is a trendy, unique and has an upbeat attitude towards their designs as well as their professional attention to the company.
When I was there for the week, they were getting ready to launch and go live on the website for orders to be placed. My job was to unpack the jewellery and re wrap them into the new Urban Sparks packaging. It was repetitive and sometimes boring but only when Chris Moyles wasn’t on the radio to keep me laughing.
It was a good experience and I thank them for that. I know they will do well with their designs and the many more to come :o)

She summed up her style in a few words: Loves dark blues greys greens and blacks, naturally inspired with small gems and metal touches to make that eccentric touch.

Send in your pictures of YOU wearing your Urban Spark jewellery! We find it really interesting seeing how you style it to suit your look. Surprise us.!

Urban Spark behind the scenes!

Check out two of the Urban Spark team hard at work packaging up your little delights.! Unlike some e commerce websites, who, to be honest, do not put much time or effort into making sure your product is packaged with love and care, we at Urban Spark, put a lot of time in! We pride ourselves on spending that little bit more time making sure our jewellery is packaged just right so that you enjoy receiving it...it's all about the little things in life.

Packaging

Our packaging has all been delivered from the printers, wonderful! So thought we would give our bloggers a sneaky peep. We have boxes, stickers, 10% off vouchers, student discount vouchers, Jules Collection flyers, badges, letter heads, business cards and urban spark info booklets, Lovely!

Scrap-a-badge!

Urban Spark loves design, so why would we through any of it away! We take all our scrap paper drawings, print outs, test sheets and spec sheets and make them in to badges to give them to our customers. We think the process of design is just as important as the design itself so why would we discard any bits of work! I suppose you could class this as recycling in a way, but we think it’s more re-inventing. We Love design!

Spotted

Our very first scarf’s on some lovely spark girls, think so nicer to have a picture of someone wearing products rather than mannequins even if the photos are not amazing, sorry my bad skills, although the lovely ladie in the hat (Caz) if just enrolled on to a photography course so when we get the new batch of products in think we will be giving her first bit of experience, we will be planning to make our first catalogue by then so happy days. Computers are amazing but sometimes it’s nice to have a book, we are building our book collection up as we speak.

Also a quick photo of our first sample wallet from the new Rosa/Forest collection, there are three colours of this. We love bright and beautiful, very fun loving sample, few more adjustments and should be finished. We are ordering this week! Spark also thinks this zip purse is most functional we can keep changing the patterns and make the same purse but revamped with different colours to suit wardrobes for summer and spring. We are complete purse sluts, we love them!

Urban Spark Loves London

As the Spark offices are not based in London, we make sure that once a month we venture on southwest trains to the capital.
After seeing on “Style Bubble” of the trees from the exhibition “Walking in my mind” http://walkinginmymind.southbankcentre.co.uk/index, wanted to venture see it for our self’s with a sneaky pop to Spitafields market on the tube. We loved the messages people that had written in the bubbles.

We ventured to the Victoria and Albert Museum; they had some amazing little gems in the Museum shop. This T-shirt, jokes!

Glasto Dreams

Now a few weeks on from the Urban Sparks venture to the delights of Glastonbury festival we have time to reflect.
One of the defining moments was in the wee hours of Thursday night/Friday morning down in the amazing depts of shangrila in the only bar left open, we were lucky enough to have a few drops of rain (it pissed it down!). One of the team pulled out of their bag this amazing delight bought from a local gardening/craft discount shop in Gosport (The Range), I kid you not, amazing! This ladybird poncho is design innovation at its best, we love these quirky little festival made delights. The frog wallet will hopefully suit well next to this number.
P.S bobby and drew we have sent you a poncho hope you enjoy was a delight to have a flash of you in our memories, amazing times! (Bobby in photo loving the poncho) frog wallet sample/first attempt)

"I am slouching"

These samples are the first we have had back, the design when it’s all folded is "just defo in the mood to slouch" or a "I am just off to the market scarf", --- it’s a scarf whatever you want to do with it looks sick! Red is the staff fave to go with the old black leather jacket, black and green look really good with the gray cardies. As they are samples will give them out, as always we are a giving company after all need some photos with some styles so let us know if you are up for some styling, oh 100% cotton buy the way, requested the ink to be as bright as possible!

Urban Spark Loves Glasto!

Glastonbury Experience was beautiful! Urban Spark team took a load of signs trying to get some good cheeky photos in return. We left them in doted places in the festival with an e-mail address on the back, good response and some amazing photos, random fun times. Want to make our appreciation to the trash city of Glastonbury, we really love the effort that went in to the city visually it was amazing extremely perfect with the secrete set from fat boy slim on the Saturday night in the dance club/catwalk stage with only 300 people lucky enough to get in, yesh, lucky us we got in and it was amazing! Fat boy slim was sick, we love these things the best Glasto yet! P&L

Loving the boys who I through a sign to classic photo with all the people behind does not do the whole thing justice though, thanks for the pose guys!

Wellies, 6 people were lucky enough to sample the willies at Glasto, there was lots of interest and photos taken so this is great for us so next year hopefully we can get a bit of backing and get them in order made ready for Glasto 2010! 2010 now that’s a scary thought, time fly’s.

Also posted some sample jewellery to a few people so if you see a spark girl/boy grab them make friend you never know what samples we have to give out, tote bags are on the way soon as well!
