REFRESHERS for our FRESHERS!

We are proud to, unofficially announce (secretly from NUS), that we will be around at our local freshers fair to support our students in Portsmouth and Southsea. As we all know they have had a hard year this year with lack of places and loans beign late as always. So as they trot, like we once did (from our roots), we are going to spoil them with sweets! While reminding them also to register with local dentist.

We hope you all enjoy and we will surely get few photos of the young ones to cherish their innocent times before they get unleashed to the dark depths of Portsmouth night life!!!

Oooo la London fashion week ! S/S 2010

For the past four seasons I've been lucky enough to check out all the action from behind the scenes at LFW, working backstage. It's always pretty wild with broken shoes, smudged makeup, lost shorts, blood on clothing (stupid women) etc etc. Here's some snaps I managed to get at various shows from S/S 10, including Basso and Brooke, Henry Holland, Richard Nicolls, Louise Goldin and Redbull fashion factory. As luck would have it, my camera decided to be a pain the asssss and go all blurry on me. I personally think it makes it all look a little dreamy.

At the Richard Nicolls show I was able to get a cheeky picture of a beautiful Chinese model I was dressing, wearing a bit of Spark jewellery. Think she works the lamina well!

Red bull factory show -graduate show

The Gradute show held by The Redbull fashion factory I thought was the most impressive as with these designers, there are no restrictions, always ambitious. The scale of the dresses blew me away! The models were so elegant and walked beautifully and with grace, it was amazing..especially with the size of heel they were subjected to.

Bryony Fripp

Bryony Fripp graduate from Bournemouth University (not far from our neck of the woods) has created beautifully quaint illustrations that are elegantly adorable and make us feel as if we are looking at poetry in drawn form.
We were lucky enough to be at the UNTOLD event this week and met her after already admiring the illustrations she had done for the event earlier that day. Although, now after seeing her website I feel that she was keeping these lovely gems hidden away! These prints/illustrations on clothes are a dream boat! I just had to share with you!

UNTOLD fashion week event!

Thanks so much to the lovely MyNewBestFriends Kimberly, we were invited to the UNTOLD event in Kingston, The Kensington Rooms. I whisked away our Urban Spark fashion writer Beth May Hall and photographer Caz GotSoul.

You know what is now only 106 days away, can you believe it all the festivities including the cold weather is slowly dawning on us.

We will be for the first year apart of the festival as well as Christmas (ahh dare I say it!) We will be in the Storehouse getting rather merry and hoping that some happy go-ers may choose our gems to give as a modern frankincense and merr to fellow friends and family, looking forward to it greatly!

so 106 days till the big day and only 78 days till the festival which will be on the 27th to the 29th of November, located in the Old Doc yards in Portsmouth, can not wait!

Fashion Insight

The lovely Fashion Insight has now added us to their wonderful website, thanks so much as your newsletters keep us with up to date with all the latest fashion info!

Customer Spot light: Holly Mcsweeney wearing the Silver Etchant Necklace

Describe your style in a few words:
Bold
I can't describe my style in a few words from fear of categorizing myself - Its so easy to become trapped into a fashion stereotype and I hate that! I like to try a bit of everything and play around with what I think suits me. You are more likely to find me in a charity shop than you are TopShop, purely because I don't want to wear the same t-shirt and jeans as everyone else! Up until quite recently I refused to wear dresses and skirts... but I've dropped that stigma now and it feels fabulous to go girly one day and boyish the next.

What do you love?

I love people, poetry, hilarity and coffee. Oh... and Documentary! My favourite thing to do is sit in a coffee shop, it's honestly where I feel most inspired! I like watching people! It gives me ideas for things to write and make. As strange as it sounds, sitting silently in my own little world when all about me is hustle and bustle gives me a warm glow of inspiration, I love that. I also love stand up poetry and comedy and good british humor, laughing at my own jokes, laughing at myself laughing at my own jokes and totally rocking out in my car to a song I love when I know other drivers are watching. Ha. That totally cracks me up!

Music of the moment:

I am totally in love with Kate Nash... (And did so before foundations thank you very much.) Purely because she is more poet than singer. I am trying to learn some of her songs on my guitar! I also love Regina Spektor, Spank Rock and Dizzee Rascal. I actually do love everything as cliche as that sounds... except for bands that are mad at their Dads. Ha. I'm a huge fan of acoustic versions of otherwise totally non-acoustic songs. The Fray - Heartless is Gorgeous! I love it!

What do you do?

I am a graduate from Bournemouth university where I studied Television Production and specialised as an Editor, I worked on numerous dramas and documentaries, my most recent piece of work being a documentary presented directed and edited by me called "A Trifle Messy". It is about a fetish called sploshing - and I get sploshed at the end! At the moment though... in the height of this job stealing recession, I am working in a bar to save money to hopefully move to London in the New Year where I can be in the thick of the television industry. My dream is to make documentaries.... OR to produce a cooking programme filthier than Nigella! In the mean time though I am working on a few small creative projects as well as writing a bit of my own poetry!

Our first debut...radio chit chat live on Express FM

nikki strange, nikki bruce, urban spark, express fm, portsmouth, southsea, radio, talk,

Myself and Nikki Bruce whipped off to Express Fm studios in Portsmouth for a cheeky interview with Darren Gamblem. Things from the get go didnt run so smooth. Ended up in the wrong building in the wrong part of town. Ditsy designers we are. Radio talkers we are not. We discussed all things Urban Spark, from influences, and the design process to where we'd be in 5 years time. All in all it was a bit of a giggle (though judging from the above pictures of our expressions, you'd think me and Nikki were looking for the nearest exits!) Might have to learn how to speak though before we try that again...

A thank you goes go out to the Express Fm team that we met, especially to Lara who has been a gem to us at Urban Spark! Big love
